Republic Day 2020: Throwback Video Of The First Republic Day Parade Held In 1950
For Indians, Independence Day and Republic Day are of utmost importance. These are days when we proudly call ourselves as the residents of a free nation. On August 15, 1947, India became an independent country by overthrowing British Rule and on January 26, 1950, India brought in effect the constitution by replacing the Government of India act. Ever since then, January 26 is celebrated as the Republic Day of India. In 1950, on this day, that is January 26, Dr. Rajendra Prasad took the oath as the President of India and President Sukarno of Indonesia was invited as the chief guest.

On 71st Republic day, here's a throwback to the first-ever Republic Day parade that took place in India. In 1950, the event was organised at the red fort and then for a few years at various locations. It was only in 1955 that Delhi's ceremonial boulevard Rajpath got chosen as the fixed venue of the Republic Day parade. It was from 1955 that the parade in its current form came into being. On this special day, the Army and Air Force demonstrate its power and display the latest missiles, aircraft, and weapon systems.

Over the years, the celebration of Republic Day has only become grander. This year, the President of Brazil Jair Messias Bolsonaro is said to be the chief guest at the Republic Day Parade event. President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and many other ministers will be a part of the event held at Rajpath.  Preparations have already begun and the defense forces have already done their rehearsals for the parade.
